FAQs About the Application Process:

What is the application process?  The application process is a 2 Step Process.  Both steps must be completed before your child’s application will be considered for acceptance.  If your child will be 3 or 4 years old on or before August 31, 2025 AND you live in the Kannapolis City Schools District (Address Lookup Tool) please complete the pre-application-STEP 1 (ENGLISH Pre-Application   SPANISH Pre-Application), upload your documents and one of our Family Advocates will be in touch with you within 7-14 business days to set up a face-to-face application appointment-STEP 2.

How long will it take to complete the application process?

The online pre-application (Step 1) will take approximately 30-45 minutes to complete. Once you submit your pre-application online, your assigned Family Advocate will be in touch with you to set up a face-to-face application appointment-STEP 2.

How do I navigate through the pre-application?

Use the Previous and Next buttons at the bottom of each page to navigate through the application. DO NOT use the Back or Refresh buttons in your web browser, responses will not be saved.

What documents do I need to complete the application?

  • Birth Certificate
  • Child’s Immunization Record / Current Physical Exam / Current Dental Record
  • Medicaid and/or Private Insurance Card
  • Proof of Residence in the Kannapolis City School District (current utility bill in parent’s name, rent receipt, etc….)

If you still cannot upload your documents, we can help!  You can bring your copies with you to your face-to-face application appointment and your Family Advocate can assist you.

The Kannapolis Head Start program allows attachments to be in many formats, including PDF, DOC, DOCX, PNG, JPG, JPEG, and GIF. The maximum file size for each attachment may not exceed 16M.

If I do not have documents at the time I complete the pre-application (Step 1) can I still apply?

Yes. You may still submit a pre-application (Step 1) without uploading documents, but your pre-application will be incomplete. Applications will be processed once all documents have been submitted and the face-to-face application appointment has been made with a Family Advocate (Step 2).

What if my documents will not upload?

No worries!  If you have trouble uploading documents or completing the pre-application (Step 1), your assigned Family Advocate will assist you at your face-to-face appointment (Step 2).

If I completed an application prior for 2024-2025 program year, can I reapply using the Pre-Application?

No. If you completed a pre-application for 2024-2025 program year or earlier, our system will not allow you to complete a second pre-application.  You will need to contact us to set up a face-to-face appointment.

After submitting a pre-application, what are the next steps?

You will be assigned a Family Advocate who will contact you within approximately 7-14 business days via telephone and/or email. The Family Advocate will work with you to review the pre-application, ensure that you have submitted the required documents or will collect required documents from you, and gather additional information as needed.

How can I check the status of my application?

Once your Family Advocate has been assigned and has made contact, you will be able to ask questions and check the status of your application with your Family Advocate via telephone or email.

Once I complete the pre-application (Step 1), the face-to-face application appointment (Step 2) and turn in all of my required documents, will my child be automatically accepted into the program?

Not quite.  Each application that is completed with our program will be put on our waiting list.  In June or July of 2025, we will accept eligible applicants from our waiting list to fill our open student slot positions.  Not all of our applicants will be found eligible (age, address, income, etc.) and therefore will not be guaranteed a slot with our program.
